What is Fate?

As you may have read in my “Coffee With David” blog “O’Toole’s Law Strikes,” I have a bit of computer problems that has delayed my work on a number of projects, including The Guardians. I know that the number of weeks I had planned for my deadline is no longer feasible.

While dealing with “Fate” as to knocking me of course, I began to think of the ancient culture of Roman, in which the futuristic culture in the universe of The Guardians is derived from. In the ancient western world, the Greeks and Romans would consult the Oracle of Delphi before certain major undertakings and to see their future and fate.

Other cultures around the ancient world and even today seek out such “oracles” to divine the future. This raises a couple of questions that I pose for myself and wish to ask my readers, in consideration of The Guardians:
1. Will “oracles” continue to play a role in a possible future where “faster than light” travel might be possible (in some method) and people do not live on Earth?
2. Could such a future place “oracles” back in to the predominance they once held in the ancient world?
3. What are your personal thoughts on fate and being able to foretell the future?
